An inexpensive basement facelift that added function and created a cozy den-for-two.
This couple was looking to refresh their basement living space after a roommate’s departure. Matt & Nat provided a design recommendation for an inexpensive facelift that included paint, wallpaper and wall panels with a custom-built entertainment unit as the focal of the room. A faux-beam was made out of inexpensive materials with a custom paint finish, to match the authentic beam on the adjoining wall. The custom entertainment unit was created across the entire rear wall of the room to house speakers, a gaming system, and books.
Matt & Nat completed this refresh in less than a week - on time and on budget!

Before: a finished basement looking for a style uplift without breaking the bank.

Before: entry to garage on left, backyard on right

In Progress: taking care to remove everything from the space, and cover the things that couldn't be moved.

In Progress: Adding panels to the long wall in the room provided visual interest with vertical lines to make the space feel taller. The panels were painted the same colour as the other walls to avoid creating too many contrasts of colour and texture.

In Progress: panel detailing for the back wall of the custom-built entertainment unit.

In-progress: the panels and bottom of the custom unit, painted black.

After: the completed custom entertainment unit with faux-beam above.

After: close-up of the authentic beam which caps the wallpaper wall. The faux beam was distressed and painted to match on the adjoining wall.

After: a cozy and updated den-for-two!
